Kate could not believe it; they had survived the three weeks and completed all their missions. Of course they hadn’t slept properly and their bodies were bruised, sore and battered, begging for rest, but still their minds were sharp. He walked into the dorm clad in plain, black joggers, before his white trainers ran up the stairs, with Ryoko and Raiden following closely behind. It was Friday evening, and everyone was in class, so they found the dorm empty with light streaming in from the warm afternoon sky. They headed to Kate’s room, deciding to finish their investigation into Brandon and his shady acquaintances. They had been doing it whenever they got time; building a web of organized crime. He had even finished the Eye, which was running smoothly. He had rung his grandfather’s assistant, asking her for anything that fitted his criteria from the factory. He told her not to tell the general, which he doubted she had done.

The prototype had arrived at the dorm. He had built the software, figured out and cracked the algorithm. All he had to do was transfer the software onto the prototype that had been shipped to him. He didn’t know what it was or what it looked like, only that it fit what he was asking for. His room was the way he left it, curtains drawn and clean because of the walk-through tours that were going on. Grabbing his computer chair, he typed in his password, asking Raiden to open the box on his bed. He loaded the program quickly, getting it ready to download onto the blank prototype that Raiden handed him, which was a silver square. Turning it over, he placed it on his desk. A holographic keypad appeared, and taking the serial number, he started downloading the software onto the box, leaving it on the side as it started. It would take seven hours. Going downstairs into the kitchen, the trio began preparing the first proper meal they had had in weeks.

He chopped up veg, peeled potatoes and seasoned steak while Ryoko cooked the side dishes. Raiden made octopus noodle soup and rice. They chatted as the room was filled with the aroma of food. They had learned to cook when they were dropped off at the academy due to the expensive food. It helped them save money, which they spent on clothes and put in their savings so that they could buy things without having to justify them and ask their parents. That, plus academy food went for five thousand a plate; most students just bought food and prepared it in their dorms. Of course, much of the time it was easier to buy from the cafeteria.

They took their food into the living room, switching on the television and flipping through channels before settling on a generic teen drama that Ryoko insisted on watching, something about the supernatural world and a normal human girl falling in love with a vampire. Kate was losing brain matter, but his girlfriend watched it too.
